Don McAlavy

Don McAlavy (1931–2016)

Don McAlavy was one of the best known McAlavy historians in Eastern New Mexico. An artist and community leader, he helped found the Eastern New Mexico Historical Foundation as well as the Caprock Ampitheater. He co-wrote two large volumes of local history with co-founder Harold Kilmer. He wrote, acted and produced several stage productions including Billy The Kid. For over two decades he wrote columns for the Curry County Times and then later the Clovis News Journal.

James Ridgley Whiteman

James Ridgley Whiteman (1910–2003)

Ridgley Whiteman discovered the first evidence of human habitation in North America older than 13000 years. The famous Clovis points are only called Clovis points because Ridgley discovered the first one here in Clovis.
